Supporting safer operations across rail and aviation through practical communication, industry engagement and frontline insight.
At dBD Communications, communication has always been viewed as something practical rather than theoretical. In safety-critical environments, clear and reliable duplex communication helps teams stay coordinated, informed and responsive when conditions become more demanding on site.
This month, the team continues that focus across several areas, from supporting infrastructure projects in challenging environments and attending key rail sector events, through to expanding our aviation training resources designed to support customers in practice.
Rail Safety Week: Communication in Practice
📍 15 – 21 June
With Rail Safety Week taking place across the industry this month, it provides an opportunity to reinforce the role clear communication continues to play across live rail environments — from planned possessions and maintenance works through to complex infrastructure and construction projects.
While safety initiatives help bring these conversations into sharper focus, the realities on site remain consistent year-round. High-noise environments, changing conditions, time pressures and multiple teams working simultaneously all place increasing importance on reliable, uninterrupted communication between operatives.
As the UK’s leading manufacturer and supplier of Network Rail Approved duplex communication solutions, dBD Communications continues to support rail teams working in safety-critical conditions across the country. Alongside supplying approved systems, the team also works closely with customers to provide practical guidance around system selection, deployment and ongoing support based on real operational requirements.
Whether supporting short-term engineering works, larger infrastructure projects or ongoing maintenance operations, the focus remains the same — helping teams communicate clearly, work efficiently and operate more safely in practice.
Supporting Communication in High-Noise Rail Environments
Those same communication challenges often become most apparent within demanding live environments — particularly where high noise levels, heavy machinery and multiple operatives are all working simultaneously.
A recent collaboration with Van Elle demonstrated this in practice during piling operations, where machine operators reported excessive transferred noise affecting communication clarity through headset systems. With piling hammers reaching noise levels of up to 129 dB, Van Elle engaged dBD Communications to investigate how communication performance could be further improved within the operational environment.
Following site attendance and investigation, the dBD Communications team used specialised measurement equipment to analyse how noise was entering the communication chain. From there, Digital Signal Processing solutions were implemented to suppress the transferred noise, alongside further system adjustments to improve clarity and intelligibility across the headset system.
The project reflects a broader part of dBD Communications’ approach across rail and construction environments — supporting customers through practical guidance, technical support and ongoing collaboration in the field. In operational environments where communication clarity directly impacts coordination and safety, that level of support remains sets us apart, helping the teams using our equipment to work effectively in practice.

Rail Live & Industry Engagement
This month, members of the dBD Communications team will also be attending Rail Live 2026, continuing ongoing engagement with contractors, infrastructure teams and rail professionals from across the industry.
As one of the UK’s largest outdoor rail exhibitions, Rail Live provides an opportunity to stay close to the operational conversations shaping the sector — from evolving site requirements and safety priorities through to wider infrastructure delivery challenges. For dBD Communications, that continued engagement remains an important part of understanding how communication systems are being used in practice across live rail environments.
Alongside the exhibition, CEO David O’Connell and Industry Specialist Andrew O’Connell will also be attending The Railway Club @ Rail Live 2026: The Big Railway Bash 2.0, bringing together professionals from across the rail sector for an evening focused around industry connection and collaboration.
Events such as these continue to play an important role in maintaining relationships across the industry while creating opportunities to discuss upcoming works, operational challenges and practical communication requirements directly with teams working on the ground.
Expanding Aviation Training Resources
Following continued engagement with dBD Communications’ aviation training content on YouTube, the team is continuing to expand the video support series.
The growing library provides clear, practical guidance across dBD’s wireless duplex communication systems, covering headset operation, system setup and wider day-to-day functionality used within live aviation environments. Designed to support both onboarding and ongoing operational use, the videos help teams access straightforward visual guidance whenever required.
Supporting ground handling operations across airports worldwide, dBD Communications continues to work closely with aviation teams operating within fast-paced, safety-critical environments — where clear communication between crews remains an important part of maintaining efficiency, coordination and operational safety.
Used across sectors including aircraft handling, de-icing and Wing Walker operations, the training series forms part of our wider commitment to supporting customers beyond system supply alone, providing accessible resources designed to help teams get the most from their communication systems quickly.
Your Moment: Communication In Practice
The dBD Communications “Your Moment” initiative continues to showcase duplex communication systems in use across real operational environments throughout rail, aviation, construction and infrastructure projects.
From engineering works through to airside operations, the initiative gives teams an opportunity to share the day-to-day realities of safety-critical working — highlighting how communication systems continue to support coordination, efficiency and operational safety in practice.
This month, we’re celebrating the submissions from across the industries we support — showcasing the environments, projects and people using duplex communication systems throughout live operations.

Continuing The Conversation
Across aviation, rail, and construction, and infrastructure environments, the challenges around communication, coordination and operational safety continue to evolve alongside the industries themselves.
Whether supporting live projects on site, engaging with teams across the sector or developing practical training resources for customers, dBD Communications remains focused on helping organisations communicate clearly and operate more effectively in demanding environments.
