From Mandates to Momentum: dBD’s Summer Round-Up

Post-show Wins, Compliance Clarity and Your Moment in the Spotlight

As we move through a busy mid-year calendar, dBD Communications is driving momentum across the rail and ground handling sectors. From successful show appearances at Ground Handling International and Rail Live, to meaningful technical conversations at the G12 conference, we’ve had a period of connection, insight, and strong engagement across our specialist industries.

This month’s update shines a light on a few key themes: the facts behind NR/L2/OPS/033 and how mandates affect our customers in the rail sector; the value our industry experts bring through site visits and consultations; and a growing calendar of opportunities to see our tech in action — both at upcoming events and in your own real-world applications.

We’re also rolling out summer service offers, rental deals, and launching a fresh call for your systems in action — with a chance to win a team goodie hamper. So whether you caught up with us at recent shows, are planning for GSE Vegas in September, or simply want to stay informed on the latest in critical communications, this month’s blog is packed with updates to keep you connected, compliant, and ahead of the curve.

Expert Support That Keeps You on Track

After clearing up the confusion around legislation, regulations and mandates such as NR/L2/OPS/033 mentioned above, the next step for many teams is figuring out what that means for their own operations. That’s where our hands-on expertise comes in.

Whether you’re reassessing your communications setup to meet compliance requirements, or simply looking to upgrade, adjust, or future-proof your current systems, dBD Communications offers the kind of personalised support that makes all the difference. Our rail specialistAndrew O’Connell, has been actively visiting teams this year across Network Rail’s route network, delivering on-site demos, practical consultations, and smart advice tailored to your specific working environment.

From short-term hire options during peak works to reconfiguring underused assets or exploring upgrade pathways that extend the lifespan of existing equipment, our approach is always bespoke. Backed by UK-based servicing, extended warranties, and proven technology, we’ve already helped organisations like Network RailHS1 Ltd, and Balfour Beatty strengthen their communications — and we’re ready to do the same for you.

GHI Americas: Ground-Level Innovation, Global Perspective

This year’s GHI Americas event was more than just a showcase — it was a moment of meaningful exchange, visibility, and momentum for dBD Communications. Known for gathering the biggest names in aviation services, the event offered our team the opportunity to do what we do best: combine practical innovation with real-world perspective.

Our stand enjoyed a strong position and steady traffic throughout, enabling us to engage with ground handling teams, operational leads, and technology decision-makers from across the Americas. But it was on stage where we truly elevated the conversation. CEO David O’Connell was invited to speak on two panel sessions, addressing how wireless communication systems are reshaping safety, training, and real-time response across ramp operations.

Joined by dnata’s Gino Matteoni and PrimeFlight’s Jon Jackson, David explored how frontline equipment is now playing a strategic role in both workforce readiness and operational resilience. With duplex communications moving from optional to essential in many apron environments, our insights struck a chord — generating strong post-session engagement and reinforcing dBD’s position as a trusted voice in aviation ground safety.

Despite some shifts in airline participation, the event was a valuable opportunity to reconnect, realign, and look ahead. We return energised by the conversations and optimistic about what comes next — including our plans to bring our next-gen solutions to the 2026 GHI Americas event in Panama.

G12 Malaga: Quietly Driving Global Standards

Alongside our public-facing efforts at GHI and Rail Live, we were also proud to have participated in the G12 De-Icing Committee in Malaga — a closed technical forum hosted by SAE International.

This highly focused event brought together specialists from around the world to examine future standards in de-icing operations, with wireless communication emerging as a key enabler of efficiency and safety. While the nature of the discussions remains confidential, David O’Connell’s contributions on behalf of dBD Communications reflected our continued leadership in shaping how duplex comms can be applied in high-risk, weather-critical aviation environments.

“It was a privilege to be part of such a focused and forward-looking discussion,” said David. “While these conversations happen behind closed doors, their impact will be felt industry-wide. We’re proud to support a safer, smarter future for winter operations.”

From policy to apron, we remain committed to driving innovation that not only meets today’s challenges — but defines tomorrow’s standards.
