Pushing Boundaries and Powering Connections
From conference halls to control zones, dBD Communications continues to make its presence known across the sectors we serve. This June, we’ve already made a strong impression at IAF Münster, and we’re now gearing up for GHI Americas and Rail Live — key opportunities to engage, demonstrate, and connect with those shaping the future of ground handling and rail — while also going beyond the exhibition floor and speaking in expert sessions focused on safety innovation and operational training.
Hot on the heels of last month’s G12 de-icing conference, our schedule doesn’t slow down. With powerful solutions like Minerva Air and Cab Kit continuing to deliver unmatched clarity and safety on the ground, and growing partnerships with major players like Menzies and easyJet, dBD is proud to remain both on the ground and firmly in the spotlight.
GHI Americas: Providing a Trusted Voice at a Global Stage
3-5 June 2025
This June, dBD Communications takes the conversation further at GHI Americas, not just with products on stand but with perspective on stage. With safety innovation and real-time response at the heart of aviation ground handling, CEO David O’Connell is contributing to two key panel discussions alongside global leaders in operational excellence.
The first session sees David join Gino Matteoni (SVP Safety & Training, Dnata) to explore how equipment-led safety improvements are redefining ramp operations. With ground teams now adopting wireless duplex systems as standard, the panel will dig into how this shift is boosting situational awareness and minimising incidents across complex apron environments.
In a second panel, David teams up with Jon Jackson (VP Safety & Training, PrimeFlight) to examine how wireless tech is bridging the gap between training and action. As turnaround times tighten and teams face increasing pressure, communication has never been more critical—or more powerful.
These sessions aren’t hypothetical — they’re grounded in frontline experience and backed by operational results. As the only UK communications manufacturer at GHI Americas actively shaping these safety conversations, dBD is proud to represent innovation that works where it matters most: on the ground, under pressure, and in full motion.

Behind the Scenes, GHI Visits dBD HQ
There’s nothing quite like seeing innovation in action. Last month we welcomed the Ground Handling International and GHI Magazine teams to dBD Communications’ HQ — a day that brought together insight, interaction, and just the right amount of light-hearted competition.
The visit offered a hands-on look at what makes our systems different — from our meticulous fault-finding process down to SMD (Surface Mount Device) level, to the live demos that showcased our commitment to clarity, safety, and performance. And yes, we had a bit of fun too. GHI’s Max Gosney took on our blindfolded comms challenge, directed by team member Samantha Payne Polepaka, successfully navigating instructions using only one of our duplex throat mics — a perfect example of how intuitive and noise-resistant our technology is, even in unpredictable conditions.
More than just a tour, the day opened up valuable conversations about collaboration, innovation, and what’s next for the ground handling sector. We’re grateful to Max and the team for taking the time to explore our approach and share ideas — here’s to what the future may hold!
Menzies & easyJet Put Trust in dBD Systems
From Trials to Take-Off: Proven Performance on the Apron
We’re proud to share that Menzies Aviation has now formally committed to dBD Communications’ wireless communication systems at Budapest Airport, marking the largest implementation of dBD technology across their European operations to date.
This permanent rollout is the result of years of collaboration — beginning with early trials in 2015 — and reinforces our shared commitment to improving ramp safety, streamlining communication, and raising standards across aviation ground handling.
At the same time, our renewed engagement with easyJet at London Gatwick highlights the value of long-term support. After supplying voice-activated systems in 2020, dBD recently returned to refurbish and ready the equipment for reactivation — ensuring teams on the ground remain fully connected as operations ramp back up.
From initial trials to full-scale deployment and continued servicing, we remain focused on delivering intuitive, durable solutions that support safe, confident movement on the tarmac.

Product Spotlight: Designed for Demanding Environments
Whether airside or trackside, dBD systems are trusted where instantaneous, uninterrupted communication makes the difference between smooth coordination and operational risk. Our solutions support teams working in high-pressure, high-noise conditions — ensuring clarity, confidence, and safety from headset to hold line.
Within GSE operations, our Apollo and Phantom pushback systems continue to lead the way, enabling full-duplex voice comms across the pushback team. By reducing miscommunication and keeping every operator in the loop — literally — these systems play a vital role in preventing ground collisions and ensuring seamless aircraft movement. And the proof speaks for itself. With zero incidents reported since integrating dBD systems into dnata’s ramp teams, and a growing rollout across the Americas, our tech is proving its worth not just in theory — but in the field.
“Ground handling isn’t just about speed — it’s about trust, timing, and teamwork,” says David O’Connell, CEO of dBD Communications. “When every voice is heard, and every signal is clear, teams can respond faster, move safer, and perform better. That’s exactly what our systems are built to support.”
This month, we’re spotlighting three systems tailored to the tough environments our clients face every day:
Minerva Air: For fast-paced airside comms
Built specifically for aviation ground handling, Minerva Air enables continuous full-duplex communication between team members during pushback, wing walking, and inspections. Designed for high-noise, high-movement environments, it ensures nothing gets lost in the roar of the apron — keeping teams agile, informed, and aligned in real time.
Minerva Vox: For hands-free coordination on the move
Ideal for dynamic ramp conditions, Minerva Vox offers voice-activated wireless communication, activating the moment a team member speaks. It’s intuitive, responsive, and removes the need for push-to-talk — allowing operatives to stay fully focused on the task at hand without compromising connection or control.
Cab Kit: For in-vehicle clarity and crew connection
Used widely across rail, highways, and construction, our Cab Kit range delivers clear, reliable communication from inside the vehicle—allowing operators to stay connected without stepping out into live environments.
Available in both standard and compact formats, with a choice of interface options — including push-to-talk, hands-free, and headset integration — the Cab Kit supports flexible configurations to suit site-specific safety protocols and operational needs. Built for durability and ease of use, it’s an essential tool for enhancing team coordination during on-site movement, loading, or possession work.
On Track with Innovation: Rail Live & IAF Münster
As June unfolds, dBD Communications is actively shaping conversations at two major rail industry events: following a successful appearance at the 29th International Exhibition for Track Technology (IAF) in Münster, we now look ahead to Rail Live 2025 — a key opportunity to showcase innovation and connect with industry leaders.
Rail Live 2025
Connecting the UK Rail Industry
Taking place on June 18–19 at the Long Marston Rail Innovation Centre, Rail Live is the UK’s largest outdoor rail exhibition, bringing together over 7,000 rail professionals and 300+ exhibitors.
Our team will be on-site, showcasing how dBD’s communication systems, enhance safety and efficiency in real-world rail environments. With live demonstrations and networking opportunities, it’s the perfect setting to experience our solutions in action and discuss how they can support your operations.
IAF Münster
Showcasing Global Track Technology
Held from May 20–22 in Münster, Germany, IAF 2025 welcomed over 15,000 trade visitors and 200 exhibitors, offering a comprehensive overview of the latest innovations in track machinery, equipment, and construction technologies.
Our presence at IAF reinforced our commitment to supporting the rail industry with reliable communication solutions built for the demands of modern track construction and maintenance. We engaged with international stakeholders, demonstrated our latest systems, and gathered invaluable feedback from key players in the field.
